According to inside sources, Oculus owner Facebook has requested the censorship of Resident Evil 4 VR to remove content that gaming journalists and social justice activists would label problematic.

The alleged censorship was reported by The Happy Warrior’s Peter Pischke, who claimed the sources included “individuals with different backgrounds and positions at different companies, some with ties to the game development community, that are only united in their appreciation for the original title.”

As a result of the alleged censorship, the game will have a censored storyline, and missing dialogue, scenes, and achievements.

The focus of the censorship is anything “that the gaming news media and social justice crowd may deem misogynistic.

“Specifically, sexual harassment, sarcastic expressions, sexist conversations, and expressions that may be indirectly linked to them have been removed.”

The changes were allegedly requested by Facebook, which owns Oculus, and were approved by the game’s developer Capcom.

Flirting between multiple characters has been removed, which has resulted in the removal of specific game achievements. The removal of flirting scenes has resulted in the substantial cutting of in-game dialogue and even scenes of dead air. Ultimately, the VR version of the game supposedly has 30% less dialogue.

This news comes despite promises from the developer that “all cutscenes will be present in their original format.” The sources indicated while Capcom is traditionally protective of its intellectual property, it could have agreed to the censorship accepting it as “the price of doing business together.”

Resident Evil 4 VR will launch on October 21 on Oculus Quest 2 and Windows PC.
