The secretary of state in Texas has launched a forensic audit of the 2020 elections in four large counties. The office unveiled details on the audit on Tuesday, saying it will involve all ballots and voting machines in the Dallas, Harris, Tarrant and Collins counties.

The secretary of state’s office said the audit ensures “Texas voters have confidence in the elections system” and addresses things election officials could face “that undermine the integrity of our elections.”

Authorities said the first stage of the audit started last week and it focuses on verifying accuracy of voting machines, evaluating cybersecurity and weeding out illegal ballots. The second stage of the audit moves to examine election records from the counties.

Texas said they would not be hiring any external groups to run the audit. Meanwhile, it’s expected to conclude in the spring of 2022.
